REDS RACE FOR A BETTER COMMUNITY
2019 marks the 38th running of the annual Reds ‘Race for a Better Community’, a 5 mile road race and 2.4 mile walking course open to anyone who wants to run or walk to raise money for six local non-profits who provide important services in Strafford County, and to anyone who just wants to have fun and be a part of the spectacle!
Participants include serious runners, recreational joggers, individuals, groups, families and community members of all ages and abilities. It’s a challenging and beautiful course and a historic annual event that brings the community together for a great cause and a good time. Reds Race is the second race in the popular Dover Race Series, and it’s a great way to get outside, shake off winter and celebrate Spring. Don’t miss the fun!
In 1981 Red’s Shoe Barn introduced the race as the Red’s Shoe Barn 5 Mile Road Race. Several years ago, Red’s Shoe Barn turned the planning and execution of this race over to local non-profits, transforming this race into a fundraiser, with the intent to strengthen the community by raising money for local non-profits who provide important community programs and services to some of our most vulnerable community members.
Over the past ten years, partnering with Rochester Runners Club, and adding the popular 2.4 mile walking route in 2007 to make the event more accessible to a broader range of participants, these non-profits have increased Reds Race participation by more than 100%!
