DESCRIPTION:Out of the Darkness is an event for suicide prevention\, sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP). These events are usually “walks” on a specific date\, and these events happen all across our country at various times of the year. \nThis year\, the Dover Mental Health Alliance has teamed up with the AFSP to host this event in Dover. Our Out of the Darkness style is a bit different from other events. Register to participate ANYTIME between May 15 and June 18. Do an activity that works for you (Hop\, skip\, run\, bike\, hike\, yoga or jump)\, while locating all of the DMHA Rolling Community Event checkpoints placed around Dover. There are 20 checkpoints in total. Track your activity minutes to earn AFSP schwag. \nRegistration is FREE. \nYou choose your own activity. You choose own route. You choose your own date (anytime between May 15-June 18; go multiple days!) Keep track of your activity minutes by using the “Activity Tracker” on your registration page. Help spread awareness for this important cause by taking a selfie at the “checkpoints” and posting on your social media pages. Want to be more involved? DESCRIPTION:IMPORTANT NOTICE: Out of an abundance of caution\, and to assist with federal\, state and local recommendations and CDC guidelines to safeguard the health of the public\, the 2020 Classical Piano Concert to Benefit the Judy Mettee Institute has been cancelled.Thank you for your patience and understanding during this uncertain time.\nCancelled: An afternoon of classical piano at the Community Church in Durham\, NH to benefit the Judy Mettee Institute at Community Partners! \n \nPerforming will be Catherine York\, a New Hampshire native and three time winner of the Granite State Piano Competition (1981\, 1983\, 1984). Catherine is a 1988 graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music\, and a winner in the New England Conservatory Honors Piano Competition (1988). Ms. York was a semi-finalist in the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition in 1989\, and won the Commonwealth Competition for Young Pianists in 1991. She was the Guest Composer at Cornell University Center For Theatre Arts in Ithaca\, NY\, where she was also assistant choirmaster at Sage Chapel. In 1992 she was one of four national finalists in the Chicago Club of Women Organists Competition. Ms. York was the Resident Music Director and Director of Music Education at the Beck Center for the Arts in Cleveland\, Ohio before returning to NH 2003. In 2005 her piano trio won the Chamber Music Foundation of New England’s International Chamber Ensemble Competition and performed at Carnegie Hall. Between 2007-2010 Ms. York was Music Director at Prescott Park Arts Festival and from 2010 to 2014 she was Music Director at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth. In 2014 she joined the staff at Community Church Durham. She has also released an album\, Comfort & Joy: Piano Improvisations for Christmas  available on Amazon\, iTunes and Spotify. \nThe Judy Mettee Institute (JMI) was developed to honor the work\, dedication and memory of Judy Mettee\, a longtime member of the Community Partners family. You can purchase tickets below or on our main News & Events page. \nFunctional Assessment of Severe Problem Behavior: A Focus on a Safer\, Faster\, and More Effective Process\nBehavioral intervention can be effective for addressing problem behavior like meltdowns\, self-injury\, and aggression\, especially when a functional assessment of the problem is conducted to determine why the problem behavior is occurring. \nIn part one of this workshop\, through lecture\, interactive discussion\, and role play\, attendees should be able to conduct interviews to discover synthesized reinforcement contingencies that may be influencing problem behavior and then design and implement safe\, fast and effective functional analyses from the interviews to determine the legitimacy of suspected reinforcement contingencies. \nTreating Severe Problem Behavior: A Focus on Strengthening Socially Important Behavior\nThe success of treatments for problem behaviors like meltdowns\, self-injury\, or aggression is largely dependent on whether the treatment is based on the function the problem behavior serves for the person with autism. \nIn part two of this workshop\, an effective\, comprehensive\, and parent-validated treatment process for problem behavior will be described and the logistics of implementing this treatment will be discussed. \n \nDr. Hanley has been applying the principles of learning to improve socially important behaviors of children and adults with and without disabilities for just under 30 years. Community Partners offers Mental Health First Aid courses to assist young people and adults experiencing mental health problems or crises. \nMental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an 8-hour course that teaches anyone 18 years or older how to identify\, understand\, and respond to someone expressing signs of addiction\, mental illness\, or mental health crisis. Just as CPR helps you assist an individual having a heart attack\, MHFA helps you assist someone experiencing a mental health or substance use-related crisis. SUMMARY:A Classical Piano Concert to Benefit the Judy Mettee Institute of Community Partners
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of classical piano at the Community Church in Durham\, NH to benefit the Judy Mettee Institute at Community Partners. \nNOTE: Tickets are available for purchase online in advance of the performance until 3pm Friday 2/22. The remaining tickets will also be available for purchase at the event on Saturday 2/23. \n \nPerforming will be Catherine York Brower\, a New Hampshire native and three time winner of the Granite State Piano Competition (1981\, 1983\, 1984). Catherine is a 1988 graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music\, and a winner in the New England Conservatory Honors Piano Competition (1988). Ms. York Brower was a semi-finalist in the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition in 1989\, and won the Commonwealth Competition for Young Pianists in 1991. She was the Guest Composer at Cornell University Center For Theatre Arts in Ithaca\, NY\, where she was also assistant choirmaster at Sage Chapel. In 1992 she was one of four national finalists in the Chicago Club of Women Organists Competition. Ms. York Bower was the Resident Music Director and Director of Music Education at the Beck Center for the Arts in Cleveland\, Ohio before returning to NH 2003. In 2005 her piano trio won the Chamber Music Foundation of New England’s International Chamber Ensemble Competition and performed at Carnegie Hall. Between 2007-2010 Ms. York Brower was Music Director at Prescott Park Arts Festival and from 2010 to 2014 she was Music Director at the Seacoast Repertory Theatre in Portsmouth. In 2014 she joined the staff at Community Church Durham. Ms. York Brower also released an album of piano improvisations on Christmas carols in 2011 which is now available on iTunes and Spotify. \nThe Judy Mettee Institute (JMI) was developed to honor the work\, dedication and memory of Judy Mettee\, a longtime member of the Community Partners family. You can help them. \nYou are more likely to encounter someone — friend\, family member\, student\, neighbor\, or member of the community — in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. \nYouth Mental Health First Aid teaches a 5-step action plan to offer initial help to young people showing signs of a mental illness or in a crisis\, and connect them with the appropriate professional\, peer\, social\, or self help care. \nAnyone can take the 8-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid course\, but it is ideally designed for adults who work with young people\, ages 12-18 — teachers\, coaches\, leaders of faith communities\, social workers\, and other caring citizens. \nTickets are $30.
